The mind behind the machine – Giulia Chironna, Business Development Manager

Our content series ‘The mind behind the machine’ aims to shine a spotlight on the people who make up Machines With Vision. This month, we spoke to Giulia Chironna, who has recently joined the organisation as Business Development Manager. Find out more about what attracted Giulia to her role and why she enjoys working in the world of rail technology, below:

Hi Giulia, can you please give us an overview of your role at Machines With Vision?

As a Business Development Manager, my role is mainly focused around building strong relationships with potential partners and trying to understand what we can do to tailor our products towards more people.

What drew you to your role at Machines With Vision?

Being constantly in contact with people is really important for me, and this role combines that social aspect with the exciting world of technology. I was also intrigued by the journey of Machines With Vision and their ethos. Roles can differ slightly from time to time, but I think it is more important to surround yourself with people that support you and really know how to work together.

What has been your career experience to date?

As I was graduating in Forensic Science from NTU, I entered the world of sales and realised that being able to speak to people and represent brands was a lot more exciting that being stuck in a lab analysing samples. So, I continued my journey in direct sales for a few years, transitioning into software business development about a year a half ago.

What excites you about the world of technology?

What doesn't?! When you stop to think about it, technology does things today that we never thought possible, and it will forever continue to do so. It is exciting to know that technology is a tool that allows us to become better every single day.

How can innovation drive the rail industry forward?

Innovation can drive forward every industry, but especially in such an established industry like rail, we must recognise that innovation and technology will take us only so far. From there, it's then up to people to fully embrace the growth and the all the positive things that can come with change.

What excites you about working in the rail industry?

It's a new industry for me so I am still learning every single day. I never realised how complex it is as an industry and how much it's involved, however, it is very refreshing and inspiring to see a lot of women are leaders in rail and have come far in their career.

Do you have any key milestones/targets you would like to achieve in the next year?

I have a lot of goals and targets and they vary from being able to attend certain key events in the industry, to being able to get the ball rolling on more trials in the UK and abroad – this variety is what makes my role interesting. I am still new to the business, but I can see us growing every day and it's exciting - I am convinced this team is going to go very far!
