Looking ahead to ‘The Rise of IoT and Big Data in Rail 2024’

Preparation is well underway as the Machines With Vision team get ready to head out to this year’s ‘Rise of IoT and Big Data in Rail’ exhibition in Cologne for the third time.

Taking place across Wednesday 15th – Thursday 16th May, the event has firmly established itself as the rail sector’s trusted meeting place for business leaders to gain a clearer understanding about the industry’s digital challenges.

Ahead of the event we spoke to Jon Owen (CTO) who will be attending the event with Anthony Ashbrook (Co-Founder and CEO), to find out why Machines With Vision are taking part in this year’s event and what they are most looking forward to seeing:

What are you most looking forward to at the event?

The ‘Rise of IoT’ event brings so many people involved in railway technology together in one place – not just the infrastructure owners, but the technology providers. As a technology provider, we are looking forward to continuing to nurture existing relationships and forge new ones with like-minded people.

We are also excited to present and look forward to welcoming people to our stand; we firmly believe that what we do and what we offer is transformative and solves one of the biggest problems in railway measurement – closing the loop between defect detection and maintenance.

Will you be exhibiting any new products or solutions?

At the event, we will be showcasing the capabilities of RailLoc, a unique solution for positioning of vehicle-borne measurement data. RailLoc unlocks data retention that is not possible with traditional positioning systems through certainty of location and line.

We will also be introducing Fault Navigator, a pocket version of RailLoc designed for track workers. This operates in the same way as RailLoc. Using a standard mobile phone, it enables a worker to navigate precisely to a defect found by a measurement train, even in areas where GNSS is denied or degraded.

We are very excited about Fault Navigator as it massively reduces the time needed on site to find a defect, therefore increasing safety, and getting trains back moving as quickly as possible. Come and see us at the event for a demonstration!

Why are you taking part in the ‘Rise of IoT’ event?

This is our third year at the event and from experience, we know it to be very well organised, with a format that works extremely well with a good blend of exhibitors and presentations.

It also attracts potential customers from all over the world in one place and affords us the chance to forge new connections, which is extremely important to us, and provides us with a platform to showcase our technology to a wide audience.

Through the event, we also have the chance to reach a diverse audience – not just infrastructure owners and maintainers, but also the providers of systems that would benefit from our data. Events like this are gold for suppliers like us, dramatically reducing the time it takes to communicate our message to multiple organisations.

Finally, if you are at the event please do come and see us. We are displaying some exciting things that we believe that will revolutionise railway measurement and maintenance. We look forward to meeting with you all to share a discussion on our thoughts and ideas – see you there!

If you are attending the event and would like to hear from the Machines With Vision team, get in touch with Nicola Harkness via nicola.harkness@machineswithvision.com to schedule a meeting with Anthony and Jon, or drop by the Machines With Vision stand which can be found in the main exhibition area. Anthony will also be speaking on the subject of “The IM data positioning problem you don’t know you have, and how to solve it!” at 10:30am on Thursday 16th May, in the exhibition theatre.
